DOP HEPA Filter Testing

HEPA filters are installed in numerous environments and process applications and the method for testing them is well documented.

How are HEPA Filters tested?

An aerosol generator produces an oil* aerosol that is introduced into the airstream that will pass through the HEPA filter to be tested. The aerosol is typically introduced directly into air handling units via ‘aerosol injection ports’, re-circulating extract vents can also be used.

An aerosol photometer is used to measure the amount of aerosol upstream and downstream of the filter. The filter face is carefully scanned for leaks as are the frame and seals. The test results demonstrate the performance of the HEPA filter reported and identifies if any leaks are present in the frame or seals. DAmaged or poorly fitted HEPA filters can have leaks that can very easily go unnoitced and aerosol testing is essential in maintaining confidence of air filtration systems.
